Whirlwind Nana Visit

Nana came for a quick 4 night visit this past weekend.  For a quick visit, it was pretty relaxing with no adventured planned or taken.  On the very first day she was here, Kendall's American Girl Doll catalogue arrived.  As embarrassing as it was having the thing delivered to my office, I think that may be preferable to it showing up at my house.  By the way, Santa, she wants everything in it.

As promised, Nana brought the Hello Kitty costume which is VERY cute!  And the outer "princess" skirt comes off so she can wear it as a dress.  We're going to take it to Tucson so we have costume options.  

 

Speaking of costumes, we were all required to dress up "as fancy as we can get" for a tea party one night.  Nana got the cape and pink tiara.  

 

Not sure how this happened, but I wound up wearing an old Halloween devil temptress costume that I didn't even realize was in my closet.  The thing must be at least 20 years old.  Last time I let Kendall pick something "fancy" from my closet!

 

Kendall gave us a preview of her Christmas dress and for some reason switched my phone to black and white for her picture.  Then she had to help me switch it back.  

Halloween cookies were made.  Mouths were blackened. 

Movie Night!  "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day."  Cute movie.  Less than stellar Kendall behavior during the movie.  Thankfully, the theater serves wine. 

 

It was a nice visit and Kendall really loves getting to play all of her board games.  I don't play them with her very often and have always and will always refer to them as "bored" games.  She also learned how to play Go Fish.  I might be talked into playing cards every now and then.  For some reason, Kendall seems to be extraordinarily lucky at games.  In fact, we seriously considered putting her in the car at 8PM one night to have her pick lottery numbers for us! 

 

I enjoyed having someone to make grocery/Walmart runs for me, cook my dinner, and entertain my kid so I could shower in peace and SLEEP UNTIL 8AM TWO WHOLE DAYS IN A ROW!  :)  

The Sleep Mask

The requirement that there shall be no less than three night lights on all night every night must make a bedroom pretty bright.  The solution to this problem?  A sleep mask of course.  

Even when teaching an exercise class of invisible people in the back yard.  Must.  Have.  Sleepmask.  

State Fair of Texas - 2014

I am a State Fair Scrooge.  I hate it.  I hate the crowds, the pushy people, the filth, the rip off games, and the sketchy rides.  My arm had to be twisted into several pretzels (funnel cakes?) this year, and not even by Kendall but by my friend Tara, who also happens to be the mom of one of Kendall's BFF's.   I do enjoy the concept of fried everything on a stick.  The deciding factor was Tara's offer of her husband as a driver and babysitter so she and I could drink funnel cake beer and boxed wine.  He's a saint, but turned out to be prone to wandering off and "getting lost" so we had to do a bit more childcare than originally anticipated.  This meant that there were more spinny rides with bellies full of beer, boxed wine and fried stick food than originally anticipated.  We were very proud of our miraculous avoidance of vomit.

Cedar Creek Lake

We took a quick 24 hour trip to my friend Kim's beautiful lake house last weekend and had a great time!  Next time we will definitely stay longer and be brave enough to do some kayaking.  

Halloween Decor

That may or may not have been put up in mid September.  And are accumulating daily.  

And a store-bought costume purchased under duress.  When she started talking about wanting to be a witch, my first thought was "Nana is going to kill me because she's making the Hello Kitty costume Kendall said she wanted three months ago."  My second thought was that it was pretty cool because a witch is a much more classic Halloween costume idea and I firmly believe that Halloween should be more spooky than sparkly.  AND she wanted to be the baby witch and I could be the mommy witch!  Alas ....

... she's a sparkly witch.  And a bit too sexy in my opinion.  Believe it or not, this was one of the least inappropriate child witch costumes I could find.  Maybe I'm becoming a prude, but why do kid costumes consist of bustiers and fish net stockings these days??  She's going to be sorely disappointed at my witch costume that is going to consist of a black dress, striped stockings, black hat, black teeth, a pointy nose, and a large hairy mole.  My sexy witch days are far behind me and I am in the prime of my scary witch days!
