Christmas Eve 2015

Fararararararararaaaaah!  The traditional Christmas Eve Chinese food dinner.

Cookies, carrots, oats and milk:  check.

Again this year, I am grateful for a kid who falls asleep quickly and sleeps soundly.

The night Mommy turned into the Grinch

Well, ONE of the nights.

Santa Visit 2015

Carriage Ride from ____

Kendall's last night of Hannukah gift was a carriage ride through Highland Park to see Christmas lights.  It was actually the second Christmas related Hannukah gift she received.  Truly a morphed holiday season here.  To make it more fun for us both, we invited besties Alana and Tara to join us.

The carriage ride was lovely.  At least until a carriage with two runaway horses flew past us, clearly spooked by traffic.  The driver of the runaway carriage fell off right next to us and almost got hit by the car behind us.  Kendall was convinced he broke his back and died.  I think he had disconnected the carriage as he fell because we later saw the horseless carriage and the passengers safe on the side of the road a few blocks down.  The line of carriages all stopped while the HP emergency vehicles got there and spooked the rest of the horses.  Our driver nonchalantly turned around to inform us that the exact same thing had happened to him the previous year.  Um.... really??  We successfully reassured the girls that WE were safe and that OUR horse (who was indeed freaking out) was perfectly calm.  No one said a word when Kendall yelled "Slow down Jackass!!!" to a car that sped by us.  Needless to say, the mamas increased the amount of peppermint schnapps in our cocoa for the remainder of our ride and I don't think any of us will want to go again.  I have since then heard that the driver is ok and the horses were found still hitched together  and unharmed a few miles away.

The rest of Mick Elf's 2015 Adventures ....

Aside from these pictures, Mick was largely uninteresting for the latter half of December.  But he DID leave every night and returned in a different spot every morning.  Good Elf.  See ya next year!

The particular "stunt" pictured below really ticked Kendall off!  She immediately erased the dry erase marker on her baby picture, being careful not to touch the Elf as she scolded him for being rude.  Charlie Brown and Snoopy are still sporting their hair.

Tooth #6

Thank you, school nurse.  I don't think it was quite ready to come out.  Kendall got to school crying this morning and getting to go see the nurse is always a nice distraction so I'm sure her teacher sent her there first thing.  And she was crying already so if it hurt a bit ... whatever.  ;)

Hanukkah Nights 1-4

First night with our besties!

Eating pizza and making a Jewish Gingerbread house.  I suppose weirder things have happened ....

We didn't even make it to candle lighting time at Alana's house, though.  A massive fever hit Kendall real quick and real hard so we headed home and Kendall lit our first night candle before receiving Santa jammies as a gift.  Again, I'm sure weirder Hanukkah gifts have been given.

This is how she spent the next 3 days.  Super sick.

Rallied a bit for fourth night and was happy with the kitty cat knee socks.

The Adventures of Mick Elf .... so far

The little guy is a bit off his rocker this year.  Not entirely sure what this says about the current state of my mental health.

It should be noted that that Kendall was all sorts of careful about not touching Mick when she picked up his poop and ate it.

It also bears mention that she would not touch the marshmallows in the bathtub pictured below because she was sure they were "dirty since Mick was taking a bath in them."  But eating his poop ... that was fine.

Mick received this note the day he showed up in her bathroom.  Apparently the child whose behavior is supposedly being monitored by the Elf is now ordering the Elf around.  I was impressed with her ability to temper her criticism of his choice of location with some positive reinforcement.
