First Mani/Pedi

This was soooooo not supposed to happen for at least another 5 years!!  But I never seem to have time when Kendall is not with me (other than when I'm in the office) and I was desperate to have my toes done.  So I took her with me and intended for her to sit next to me and entertain herself on the iPad for a while.  Yeah.  Not-so-much.  She was mesmerized by the "galaxy of polish!"  And, of course, they offered to polish her toes and fingers.  She talked this lady's ear off and kept the other ladies in the salon entertained.  When we left, she announced that next time she wants to have her feet soaked and massaged and not just polished.  I may have created the next Honey Boo Boo ...

She wanted "matching" toes and I agreed ... until she picked out a bright sparkly green.  My toes are occasionally seen at the office.  Looking like I've just returned from the Emerald City is not ok.  So she settled on a nice hot pink.  That I actually really like!

Little Things I Want to Remember - 18

1.  Kendall:  "Mommy, can we watch Snow White?  I want to hear what the smurfs sound like."
Me: "Sure we can watch it, but there are no smurfs in Snow White."
Kendall:  "Yes there are!  There are seven of them!"

The part of me that wasn't laughing about "Snow White and the Seven Smurfs" is a bit mortified that my child can so easily confuse a classic Disney movie with something as awful as the Smurfs!

2.  In a conversation about why I don't like the circus:
Me:  "I don't agree with how they treat their animals and I feel that wild animals should be in the wild."
Kendall:  "Yes, in the forest.  Or the ZOO!"

3.  Kendall: "Mommy, you're too BOSSY."
Me: "Yep. That's my job."
Kendall: "When I have my own kids, I'm not going to boss them around."
Me: "I find that hard to believe."
Kendall: "Actually, I'm not going to have kids. I'm going to own a grocery store and you can work with me. I'll be YOUR boss!"

Truth be told, the kid already IS my boss. But she can NEVER. FIND. OUT.

4.  When she asked if we could Facetime with Rehnny in Heaven, I was quick with my first response that Rehnny is a dog so he doesn't have an iPhone.  She then asked, "What about the person taking care of him in Heaven."  I'm still a bit stumped about why Heaven isn't equipped with iPhones.  I mean, seriously, how can anywhere without an iPhone be Heaven??

5.  After dinner one night, she ran to the bathroom and told me she was "going to make room for dessert."  Definitely related to her Saza!

6.  Teaching a 4 year old to say "I love you" in french was not my best of ideas.  She walked around for the next few days saying "Shit Adore!" Now we know why Fancy Nancy (who thinks "everything sounds better in french!") doesn't ever say "I love you" in french in her books.

Mommy and Monkey sunset date!

Swoon ...

"Bobo" - formerly known as "Bo Bear" when he belonged to me for over 30 years.  I live in constant fear of this bear getting lost or disintegrating while being washed.

Fears realized

Ugh.  Kendall just rolled up to me in her princess sticker covered car and asked me if I was the valet.  All of my fears about raising my child in Snobville have now been realized.

Sometimes you just have to go fishing!

In the bathtub.  Wearing your Cinderella dress.  And your robe.

I may be a bit biased,

but setting aside the decor created by the lovely carseat, this child is clearly the most gorgeous child in the world .... especially when she's smiling and not speaking!

Summer of Movies!

"Turbo" is officially the third movie Kendall has seen in the past 3 weeks.  Yes, she's wearing shoes that are hot pink patent leather (and a size too big) and is sporting a tiara held together by duct tape.

Popcorn and Twizzlers (Kendall calls them "Twigs") - necessities for me in movie theatres that don't serve alcohol.  Sadly, instead of leaving the theatre happy and relaxed, I left with a stomach full of Twizzlers that later resulted in a brightly colored and horror movie-esque puking session.

Kendall didn't even make it out of the parking lot before she zonked out.  I believe she was mid-sentence telling me she didn't feel like taking a rest or nap today and ..... (then the tiara came off, the head flopped and the snoring/drooling started)

God help me, but the next movie she wants to see is "Smurfs 2."  I imagine this means I'm going to have to suffer through Smurfs 1 at some point in the next week or so.  Fortunately, this will be at home where I'll have wine handy.

Smurfs 2 will necessitate the return to Studio Movie Grill Theater where there is a red button on the table that can be pushed and wine magically appears.  We saw Monsters University at SMG last weekend and it was a decent experience.

We all got individual pizzas, I got wine, I think Chris got a root beer float, and Kendall got a massive milkshake.  This was not a cheap movie date - in fact I'm pretty sure it was well in excess of $100 for the three of us to eat, drink and watch a movie.  But I really think the wine made it worth it.   Ooooh, maybe they'll serve blue smurfberry wine for the Smurf movie!

The stuff nightmares is made of

Disney Princess or not, when its head and crazy read hair are sticking out from underneath a bed it's disturbing in a very Chucky-esque manner.  To say the least.

Fish sticks ... hold the fish

Kendall:  "Mommy, I want fish sticks for dinner.  But without the fish."
Me:  "Ok ... so you want sticks for dinner?"
Kendall (rummaging through the freezer):  "See this box?  It says fish sticks.  I want these.  Just take the fish out."
Me:  "Gotcha."

This conversation reminded me of when I was in a restaurant in Florida with my mother and she requested a tuna sandwich ....but only if the tuna was grown in a can.  Definitely not if it was from a fish, typically referred to a a tuna, who at one point in its life, prior to being hooked and reeled in, actually swam in the ocean.

Crazy women in my life!

Despicable Me 2

First successful full length movie in a theatre!  Shamefully, it was not a Disney movie.  Probably even more shamefully, it was PG, rather than G, rated.  But it was cute!  Kendall required a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, popcorn, nachos, pirate booty, craisins, a water pouch, and only one trip to the potty during the movie.   She did start complaining that her tummy was upset about 5 minutes before the end of the movie.  Can't imagine why ....

NC Fun

Lots of pool time!!

Happy Birthday to Nana!

Fun Fourth with Family, Friends, Food and Fireworks!

Kendall and I had a nice 4th of July in NC this year!  Did some swimming in Nana and Saza's pool.

And did some puzzling after a failed attempt at a rest.

Festive toes!

I think it will be a while before I let a 4 year old paint my nails again.

The Copolos came over for some swimming, dinner and fireworks.  Kendall was SO excited to see Kelly and Chris!

And Kelly had the same decorated toes!

The child who screams like she's being eviscerated when I try to lightly brush her hair allowed Kelly to do THIS to her hair!

Poor Chris.  He did a great job being bossed around (and occasionally squished) by two girls!

We had a few small fireworks we set off in the driveway but it was awfully wet.  The timing was good, though - it started pouring right after we came back inside.

Four and a half!

In keeping with tradition, we celebrated Kendall's HALF birthday today.  This may be the last time we do this since it seemed to be the excuse for an abundance of less-than-attractive diva-esque behaviors throughout the day.  But nonetheless ...

We started the day with a colorful breakfast of yogurt.  With sprinkles.

Then she received her present from Mommy and Daddy - princess wall clings.  Again, I'm sure mightier have fallen ... but maybe not this far.

Her next gift from Nana and Saza was a princess beach towel.

As we walked through the grocery store, she announced to anyone and everyone within earshot that today was her birthday.  I'm still not sure if it was worse for me to clarify with "half birthday," or let people think I was getting my child nothing but a nasty (stale), cheap pink cupcake for her actual birthday.

I do suppose the birthday indulgence is hereditary.  Anyhow, Happy 4.5 to my little birthday diva!
