We took this Friday off from work and school and went to a show for which I'd purchased tickets almost an entire year ago. On the first day they went on sale. This was our 3rd Disney on Ice show and a fabulous Mommy/Monkey ... I mean Mommy/Princess outing! I may be a bit biased, but I'm pretty sure she was the most beautiful of the at least 5,000 Elsa's in the audience.

Besties for almost 3 years!
Kendall and Alana. Friends since the very first day of their 3 year old class at the JCC. They've been in different schools for the past 2 years and we now live across town, but we get together as often as possible. Alana's mom, Tara, and I met at the JCC pre-school open house before school started in 2012 and she had me at "do you drink wine?"
In hindsight, taking two 6 year old girls who are highly prone to excessive squealing to Target wasn't our best idea. But next time the moms should get fancy matching shoes too!
Here are two pics from the first day of their 3 year old class. Kendall and Alana were already talking to each other instead of looking at the camera.

Geriatric Dogs do not make good bedfellows.
Both dogs are having problems getting up on the bed these days. Ginger loses a back leg and goes three-legged almost every night and Ralphie can't seem to keep either of his back legs underneath him. He does the splits a lot. And falls a lot. It's sad. I do have to say that if the two of them would stop being so daggum bouncy, they might not fall so often. I know they don't feel old in their minds or in their hearts, but their bodies just can't bounce like they used to. I lifted them both up on the bed the other night, all 160 pounds of them, and they snuggled right up to each other. Not sure why I had it in my mind that they wanted to snuggle with me because this was clearly not the case.
Wasn't it nice of them to leave me a sliver of space on the side of the bed? Can't remember the last time I slept so poorly. Possibly the last time Kendall slept in the bed with me. I'm not sure who is worse. The kid snores and farts. The dogs snore and fart. The dogs randomly shake and twitch at night. The kid randomly kicks and flails. They all sleep sideways. I will say that neither dog has attempted to pry my eye open in the middle of the night because it was trying to tell me a story. When all four of us are up there together, it's cozy and sweet. Until the snoring starts, the first dog or person gets kicked, and the first dog or person falls off the bed. This is the reason I keep the guest bed made at all times.
Kendall and Caleb
In case anyone was wondering, Kendall and Caleb are most definitely still an item. Apparently they are kind of the "it couple" in the class. At Grandparents Day, the two of them cuddled up and posed for a lot of pictures for a lot of people, most of whom I did not know. I adore Caleb's mom and so does Kendall so Megan is going to take Kendall home one day from school so the kids can hang out and I'll meet them there after work for dinner and wine. Does that count as a date??? I have to say that I was dubious about this relationship thing at first, but the kid's growing on me. He's absolutely adorable, very funny, and 100% polite.

Puppy love
The good thing about dogs and kids is that eventually kids get old enough to give the dogs enough attention to make up for the attention babies take away from dogs!
Camp-In!
The final Saturday of spring break, Kendall had a sleepover planned with her dad but it wound up canceled at the last minute. So we decided to have a camp-IN in the family room! 30 minutes to set up the tent. 30 minutes to blow up the air mattress. 15 minutes to bring all bedtime necessities into the tent. 15 minutes photographing the event.
(the view from the window of the "neighbor")
15 minutes reading a book in the tent.
Amount of time Kendall spent in a horizontal position in the very elaborate set-up? None. But Ginger slept all night in there.
Amount of air left in the air mattress after being under Ginger and her nails all night? Minimal.
Spring Break with Nana
We didn't get a Spring Break vacation, but Nana came to stay with us for a week so I could work over Kendall's break and kept her pretty busy! The first day was rainy and icky and they were both content to stay inside. The second day, also rainy and icky, I arranged a Monster Yogurt play date with a class mate, an added bonus being that the classmate's mother was Kendall's preK teacher last year so double the excitement! On Wednesday, Nana and Kendall met up with Nana Pam and the Conley kids and had a nice outing at the Arboretum.
On Thursday, they met up with Alana and her mom for lunch, then a spontaneous hair wash/blow dry, then a few hours at Quiggley's Clay House. The hair thing was odd, especially since Kendall has never allowed her hair to be washed or dried at a salon and has the most tender head on the planet.
The current cat fascination also baffles me.
At some point during the week I gave Nana my cold. She may or may not have been told to take some Sudafed and suck it up so Kendall could continue her social life.
I worked from home on Friday and Nana left that afternoon. Then Kendall got sick. At least she got most of her social activities out of the way earlier in the week and only 1 playdate had to be canceled.
