"Subjects and Servants"

This is a short post, but is a Kendall quote deserving of its own space.

Me (as Kendall was trying to con Saza into retrieving a ball that she was perfectly capable of fetching for herself):  "Kendall, get your own ball.  You do not have subjects and servants."

Kendall (sulking):  "I SHOULD!"

I had no idea the child even knows what a subject or servant is but maybe I've let her watch Downton Abbey with me too many times?  Or maybe it's just an innate expectation, the reality of which some of us still bemoan.

Facing Fears

Not Kendall's fears ... mine.  Can't.  Stand.  Birds.  This one, named "Bo," happened to be at the Dallas Farmer's Market last Sunday and Kendall couldn't get enough of him.  Bo was actually a nice bird and his owner promised me he didn't bite.  After watching no less than a dozen small children successfully hold him, I relented to having Bo put on my hand for a photo op.  Looking at these pictures, perhaps I ought to have been a little more wary of the toothless guy behind me than the pretty pink boy bird?

Little Things I Want to Remember - 13

1.  Kendall:  "Mommy, what kind of bees make milk?"
     Me:  "I have no idea."
     Kendall:  "BOOOObees!"
     Me:  Thanks Daddy.

2.  In keeping with the upstanding influence of Daddy on his little girl, he has now taught her how to "head butt."  This involves putting one's "butt" on someone else's head.  Seems more like a "butt head" to me.  Semantics.

3.  "Mommy, you look like Barney the Dinosaur!"  Said out of love for the annoying purple thing on television, but also said to me when I was trying on a new purple bathing suit that did, indeed, make me look large.  The bathing suit went back.

4.  As Kendall was going through her drawers, she pulled out a pair of tights and said, "Hey!  These are just like DADDY'S pantyhose!"  I stood there shell shocked for a second before I remembered that Chris does indeed have some of my old pairs of hose in his closet that he uses to buff his shoes after he polishes them!  I'm almost 100% certain the child has never seen me wearing pantyhose.

Dangerous? Helpful?

In the end, since she didn't get hurt or break anything, it was determined that this activity is indeed helpful rather than dangerous and will probably be allowed in the future.  :)

And just when I think I can't possibly love this little girl a single ounce more, she goes and does something like BEG to rub my feet for me!  *swoon*

Random July Pictures

Ready to go swimming in her wading pool!

Lunch on the back porch (after a brief argument over why lunch could not be eaten IN the wading pool).

Early morning bike "ride" in the garage.  In a tutu.  And bare feet.

Trip to the grocery store.  In a tutu.  And rain boots.

4th of July - 2012

Not sure how these three (bad) pictures were the only ones I managed to get on the 4th of July, but at least they show a bit of the cute outfit Nana made for Kendall!  We had a nice hot dog, corn on the cob, and mac and cheese dinner with a fruit pizza dessert at Nana and Saza's house and then went to see the fireworks.  They don't start until 9:30 here so it made for another very late night for Kendall, but she was a trooper!  The best thing about this 4th of July?  The discovery that we can see the fireworks at eye level, from the comfort of a 39th floor conference room at my downtown Dallas office!  No heat.  No bugs.  No crowds.  No traffic.  No parking problems.  No cost.  It was perfect and we will definitely make this an annual tradition!   (the only downside is that taking pictures of fireworks through a glass window doesn't work too well - I tried.)

Sink Swimming?

Kendall almost never wants to take a bath.  Never.  But lately she's been most agreeable to taking baths in the large tub in my bathroom so she can "swim."  I think this is part of her (obviously failing) attempts to convince me that she CAN swim, albeit in less than a foot of water, so she doesn't have to go back to Mockingbird Swim.  Anyhow, she really wanted to take a bath tonight with her new mermaid doll and was tragically disappointed when bedtime snuck up on us and we just ran out of time.  So we suggested that she let her doll swim in the kitchen sink.  Little did I know that Kendall was going to try to swim in the kitchen sink!  She kicked and everything.  Weird kid.
