2013 Spring Conference Report

Language and Literacy Development:  Kendall's language and literacy have really developed this year. She speaks using complete sentences (which she has actually been doing for several years now) and is able to carry on simple conversations (I've had conversations with her that I do not consider "simple"). She understands many words and her vocabulary has increased tremendously.  She can also now answer questions regarding a story just told and can answer "why" questions by giving a reason.

Cognitive Development:  Kendall's cognitive skills have really grown tremendously this year.  She is able to identify all letters of the alphabet and numbers 1-20.  She can count orally to 20 (she can actually count to 50) and can count up to 15 using 1 to 1 correspondence.  She is also able to relate today, tomorrow, and yesterday to days of the week.

Gross Motor Development:  Kendall has become much more confident in her gross motor skills.  She now walks up and down stairs using alternating feel without holding the rail.  She can jump forward a 2 foot distance using feet together (and is quite proud of this!)  She can also do a forward roll.

Fine Motor Development:  Kendall's fine motor skills have really grown over the year.  She is now holding the scissors correctly and with patience an cut out a small square, triangle and circle.  She has also begun writing her name and sometimes tries to wrote other people's names.

Social Skills Development: Kendall's social skills have really progressed this year.  She has become much more confident in initiating cooperative play.  She and the other girls love to play ballet class (I find this interesting since she just quit her ballet class a month before her recital this year).  Kendall especially enjoys playing the role of the teacher.  (shocking)  She can also communicate well with adults and can tell her house number, street name and town in her address as well as when to call 911.  (She can also sing my cell phone number and does so regularly).

Self-Help:  Kendall remains very independent and has learned to put her jacket on by herself. She can sometimes even zip it up (really need to get her a jacket with a better zipper b/c I have trouble with this one).  She has also begin to try to fix clothing items that are inside out.  (still working on this concept with her father).

Scientific Thinking:  Kendall has begun to use the scientific method.  She makes guesses as to what will happen based on her experiences.  She has especially enjoyed our gardening this year.  She is always the first to remind me to go check on our peas.

Additional Comments:  It has been such a pleasure getting to know Kendall this year.  She is so sweet and has a great sense of humor.  She has made really great friends with the girls in our class and has come out of her shell a little bit.  She was very cautious about things at the beginning of the year but has gained so much confidence.  I have really enjoyed watching Kendall grow and mature into the wonderful young lady she is.  Thank you for sharing your precious daughter with me.
