Random Pictures from past few weeks

I have gotten very behind on my blogging so thought I'd post some random pics to catch up a bit.

Once she has the strength to actually squeeze the handle, this could be the start of something good!

These are pictures from her class parent visit on the playground.  Kendall played with and introduced me to a lot of kids.  This little blonde girl, however, is not in Kendall's class but pretty much latched herself onto Kendall and didn't leave her side.  Neither of us can remember her name.

Apparently a ring pop is required on the way to school if mommy has to stop at a store to run a quick errand on the way.  Breakfast of champions?  She walked into school at 8AM with a very green mouth.  I guess it didn't seem all that odd to anyone there because no one ever said anything to me about it.

I appear to have created a pedicure addict.  I am no longer allowed to go have one without her - sigh ....

Ralphie continues to be an involuntary but ever-so-patient subject of much of Kendall's imaginative play.

And he may be as tired of the Sofia the First book as I am.

This is just weird so I took pictures ....

Little Things I Want to Remember - 19

1.  Kendall's lullaby to me at our (completely unsuccessful) attempt at rest time last weekend:

"Go to sleep, little mommy, go to sleep.
Time to sleep, little mommy, it is rest time.
You need rest, little mommy,
So you're not so lazy and mad the rest of the day."

Cranky might've been accurate .... but lazy and mad???

2.  At night, one of the songs I sing with Kendall is a lullaby called "Jenny Rebecca," but I always change the name to "Kendall Jane." The song starts with "Jenny Rebecca (or Kendall Jane), 4 days old (we say 4 years old), how do you like your world so far?" After that line last night, Kendall yelled, "I LOVE IT!" She has no idea how much I needed to hear that.

3.  On the way to school one morning, Kendall kept talking about a "zucchini top" that is too small for her. Once I figured out what she was talking about, a "bikini top," I laughed so hard I almost drove off the road.

4.  My car was making a weird noise the other night and I told Kendall we must have something stuck in our tire (I have no idea, actually, what was/is wrong with it but the noise stopped so I'm choosing not to think about it for now).
Me: "Uh oh.  I think we have something stuck in our tire."
Kendall: "I think we have a cow stuck in our tire!"
Me: "Um, I think it's probably a stick or rock or something."
Kendall: "Well, if it's a cow, that's gonna be one dead cow."'
Me: "Yup ...."

5.  After struggling with several of the MATH computations Kendall was asking me to do in the car, on the way home from school/work, I finally realized that she was going to say, "Good job, Mom!" whether I gave the correct answer or not so I just started throwing out numbers and enjoying the praise. The end of a long day is just not the time for math. Not even pre-K math.

Kendall meets Baby Caroline!

Kendall's boyfriend, Jackson, has a little sister, Caroline Elizabeth!  Don't they just look like a couple with a new baby of their own?

Caroline smiles at 1.5 weeks old!

Three days into the school routine ...

... and Kendall managed to catch the first bug going around.  I was feeling very together and prepared for my next week on Saturday, having planned meals, made a huge grocery run, decided what I could cook and when, done laundry, put all of Kendall's school activities for the next several months on my calendar, etc.  Then she got sick on me that afternoon and she and I had maybe an hour of collective sleep that night.  Then my internet/modem died on me.  Then my car died on me (stranding me in a parking lot) the next morning.  And, of course, it was a Sunday so I couldn't have it towed to the dealership because it was closed.  Oh, and the only rental places open were at the airport.

Sooooo, I got a rental car and scheduled AT&T to set up Uverse at my house on Monday (they were really great to deal with, by the way!) and managed to make dinner that afternoon.  I kept Kendall out of school on Monday because she hadn't been fever free for 24 hours and thought I'd work from home after I got the car towed to the dealership and while I was waiting for AT&T to show up.  Not-so-much with no internet so that was a flawed plan.  Have I mentioned lately how much I ADORE the kind and wonderful people I work for who are SO patient with my working mom status?

On Monday morning, Kendall I and went to meet the tow truck at 7AM and when the truck got there (at 8AM), lo and behold, the *$@! car started for the tow truck guy (apparently the steering wheel/ignigition mechanism locked and just needed to be turned a few times??).  Long story short, I managed to get friends to help me get my car home, the rental back to the airport, and the internet is finally working.  I fed my kid fast food for two meals in a row, but she lived (and was thrilled with her diet).  She and I were both in bed by 8 last night and she is now happily back at school (after an hour and a half morning commute this morning) and I am blissfully in my office catching up and making money.

Maybe next week I'll be super mom ....

Spirit Day

Every Friday is "Spirit Day" at Lamplighter and the kids are encouraged to wear ridiculously priced spirited school attire.  I dutifully bought Kendall the red Lamplighter Spirit shirt that apparently everyone has and sells out quickly (it actually really did sell out quickly) and she hates it.  She finally agreed to wear it but insisted that it was "too ugly for her" (I have to say I kind of agree) and then refused to let me do anything with her hair because "it may as well be all ugly too."  Of course, this is the day that they had professional pictures taken of each kid as they got out of their cars.  Ah well.  I snapped this picture when we were in the carpool line.  I'm wondering how long the brief amount of time that she can (and is, in fact, required to) get out of her car seat before the car has stopped moving is going to be a highlight of her day?

First Day of PRE-K at Lamplighter!

Up at 5:30AM.  Left the house at 7:15AM.  Thankfully, I had packed Kendall's lunch and we had picked out her outfit the night before or she probably would've gone to school with a juice box and naked.  Mornings are something I'm going to have to come to grips with, I'm afraid.  She hopped on out of the car at carpool like a champ, though, just like she did this summer at camp.  Didn't even look back to wave.  Sending her to camp there this summer was a great thing.  She knew it was ok to happily leave the car and walk into the school, and I knew that I needed to get my hug and kiss goodbye before we got to the front of the school!

Her first day went really well for her, but the hour I spent sitting on the road in carpool traffic just to get into the school gate did not make me happy.  I left my office at 2:45 to pick her up at 3:15 and we got home at 4:45.  I have to give Lamplighter props, though.  The principal sent an email to parents around 7:00 that night apologizing for the long carpool line and assuring us that it would not be like that again.  And it wasn't. The next day I left my office at 3, got to the school at 3:25, and had her in the car on the way home by 3:30.  MUCH better!  And she has now been the 2nd kid to arrive at school the past two days in a row. I think I can sleep 15 minutes later.  :)

Look out Lamplighter ...

...here they come!  From left to right, Kendall, Chloe, and Campbell at a play date before school starts. These three were in camp together and adore each other.  Trouble times three!  ;)
