As we get closer to the date when we find out if Kendall got into the other schools we've applied to for her Pre-K year, I get more and more panic-stricken about the possibility of her leaving this wonderful school where she has been since she was barely two years old and didn't really have any hair on her head. There is a significant part of me that hopes she won't get into Hockaday or Lamplighter and can stay at the JCC, where she's comfortable (and where I'm comfortable), for one more year. Of course, then we'd be in a serious dilemma after her pre-k year since there is no Kindergarten class at the JCC. Might have to set up a cardboard box and live on the side of a street in Park Cities to get her in the only decent public schools in Dallas. However, she informed me the other day that we need to put blood (pronounced very creepily and vampiresque as blllllaahhhhddd) on our front door to keep bad guys out of our house. Ahhhh, Passover is coming up. Time to expect more conversations and questions that freak me out about frogs, hail, boils, blood, lice, death of the first born, etc. Kendall's (very basic) understanding of the jewish holidays is just now starting to complicate our plan to keep holidays at our home as secular as possible. I can say, without hesitation, that she will not go to another school with any religious affiliation. But, for the most part, this one's been awesome. They love my child for who she is and no one has ever tried to push any beliefs on her or on us. It's an accepting, loving, non-judgmental atmosphere that somehow manages to seamlessly blend all types of religions, backgrounds and cultures into one happy family.
When she leaves this school, be it this year or next, I will be a puddle.
